Previously, the basic number of debris after the destruction of moons, entities, stations OPS was considered according to the formula:
[Diameter of the moon from which the satellite is made, in meters] / 6, plus 10% of the cost of all that was on the satellite
New formula:
[Diameter of the moon from which the satellite is made, in decimeters], plus 10% of the cost of all that was on the satellite (buildings, defense and fleet).
The formula works the same for all satellites, for stations the diameter will still be multiplied by 10 because so many times it is reduced during the construction of the station from the moon. It was made for profitable destruction of unwanted OPS into debris, because if OPS has diameter 30, then the moon was 300 in diameter. Naturally, all stations and all moons will give about 60 times more debris and their destruction will become more profitable.
For example, you destroyed the OPS 30 km in diameter. You will get about 3 000 000 of debris + 10% of debris from buildings.
For example, you destroyed the moon with a diameter of 900 km. You will get about 9 million of debris.

And the side effect of this little change? They just painted a huge target on SOPs, making it that much more difficult and dangerous to build enough so you can get Graviton Tech. In order to get 300k+ energy, it requires huge amounts of SOPs so in order to do so, along with high lvls of Solar plant n vespene reactor, there by causing you to spend even more time and resources on your defenses to keep them from being droped. Pundits will say that if you have that many then, you should already make sure they are protected along with your planet, However, a large enough fleet can get through any defenses and destroy them, causing a debris field 60x larger then before, as all your time, hard work and resources creating them get blown to hell. Because of this change they are in effect dissuading/making it harder and longer for players to get Graviton Research, in a game already seriously time and resource consuming as is, this change would only benefit the older/larger/well established players over newer/lower level ones, as well as reducing the number of players having it. This also means that it will be that much harder to get the 'destroy' ability necessary for flagships to take out the sun stations required to be destroyed for in game quests, a requirement already made higher by nerfing the flagships from previous changes. Now instead of 1 or 2 death stars, you need a dozen or so just to destroy a sun station for game quest and thats with the graviton research. Without it, taking out a sun station would be practically a waste of time and you should just remove the quest from the game and if you do manage to destroy one, the debris feild will be so massive you will have every player in the area, friend or foe, swarm in on your kill to leach off the now 60x larger debris field you just created. By making this change you force players to have only a couple options: 1) build the required amount and hope you have enough defenses for your SOPs not to be destroyed by a large enemy player fleet, 2) create a energy planet in a spot so remote or in the heart of a alliance were no one will hopefully bother it or 3) not build them at all. -smh

Shadowkat, I guess, by satellites Victoria means moons and other entities based on moon, not Solar Satellites. So, stay cool.
